Business Development (BD) Manager – Life Sciences & IP

London (Hybrid)

Newly created role with excellent scope and long-term development opportunities – ideal for an experienced BD Manager who is looking to make an impact.

My client is a prestigious law firm with a global presence, with a reputation for excellence and a diverse portfolio of clients, from entrepreneurial start-ups to multinational corporations. The BD team in London are well regarded and work closely with stakeholders as trusted advisors and are encouraged to bring creativity and unique perspectives to the table.

The firm has an excellent track record of progression and retention, and this newly created role will see the successful candidate take ownership of the development and delivery of the BD and Marketing strategy for the ambitious practice & sector groups you will be aligned to.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with practice and sector group leaders to raise the groups profile, define messaging and market differentiation and develop key sales messaging to develop a robust go to market BD and marketing plan.
  • Ascertain budget requirements and track spend, reporting on ROI.
  • Create and develop strategic client relationship plans and undertake some account management responsibilities for assigned key clients.
  • Project manage tender opportunities, crafting tailored, work winning content.
  • Develop marketing communications and campaigns to enhance the groups brand profile.
  • Build effective internal relationships across the firm to create cross selling opportunities.
  • In conjunction with the events team, organise and deliver impactful client events.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of BD best practice.
  • Manage a small team of junior BD team members.

Person Requirements:

  • Solid BD experience, ideally gained in a law firm environment. Experience of, or interest in Life Sciences, IP or Commercial would be advantageous.
  • Experience of line managing or coaching and mentoring junior team members.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge positively and influence.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing strategic advice to stakeholders.
  • Highly organised, with great attention to detail.
  • Innovative and open to new ideas.
  • High levels of commercial acumen, motivated by consistently adding value to stakeholders.
