The Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), a registered charity, is an international forum where science meets business. Established in 1881 SCI’s main charitable objective is to advance the application of science into industry for public benefit, which it fulfils via events, publications and other activities. Today, with members in over 70 countries SCI facilitates open innovation, identifies and promotes emerging technologies in the areas of climate change and global health, and provides support for the next generation of scientists and engineers.

SCI Publishing produces 8 specialist research journals in collaboration with our partner Wiley. These journals cover a diverse range of subjects including agriculture, biotechnology, chemical technology, materials science, climate science and energy. The team also produces the Society’s magazine, Chemistry and Industry, and digital and social communications.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Marketing Executive to join our publishing team and support SCI’s portfolio of research journals. You will be responsible for developing and delivering strategic marketing initiatives which increase title awareness, manuscript submissions, journal readership and launch new products.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market, sector and audience research to gain insights into author motivation and behaviour.
  • Create campaigns to increase journal reach and submissions from target geographies, disciplines and researchers.
  • Develop a communication strategy that builds stronger relationships with current customers and drives repeat interactions.
  • Manage and maintain the digital presence of products, including social media channels.
  • Regularly report on campaign effectiveness, return on investment and performance against KPIs.
  • Work with the Publisher to develop marketing plans to support the launch of new journals and initiatives.
  • Manage the CRM database and ensure that we are capturing appropriate customer information and utilising it effectively in marketing campaigns.

Required knowledge and skills:

  • Bachelors degree in marketing, communication or a related field.
    Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a multi-channel marketing role and ideally in the scholarly publishing industry.
    Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing campaigns that deliver ROI.
    Experience of working with digital and social media tools and reporting suites.
    High level of competency with Microsoft applications.
    Experience of using CRM software to manage customer communications.
    Strong analytical and data skills and experience of using bibliographic tools to gain audience insight.
    Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
    A passion for science and communicating that to diverse audiences.
    A self-starter able to take on responsibility for delivering all aspects of marketing campaigns.

This position is based at our office in Belgravia, London. We currently operate a hybrid working pattern of 3 days in the office and 2 at home.
