Veritas Education are working with a school looking to hire a teaching assistant to work with SEN with immediate start this academic year. Your role would be working closely with SEN student 1:1 on a full time contract. The successful SEN teaching assistant will be working in reception with a student that will has just joined the school and has mild to high SEN. Experience as a SEN teaching assistant would be preferable and recent graduates with an interest going into special educational needs or psychology, although having a degree is not essential.

You will be helping deliver an exciting curriculum as a SEN teaching assistant where children are encouraged to explore, discover and question through an enriching learning experience. They recognise and celebrate the talents of each child, enabling them to grow in confidence and excel in both their educational and personal goals. As a SEN teaching assistant, you will work closely with parents, carers and families as a part of the wider community.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT

SEN Teaching Assistant support for Pupils:

  • Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  • Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils

SEN Teaching Assistant Support for Teachers:

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work
  • Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
  • Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be

Qualifications needs as a SEN Teaching Assistant:

Essential:

  • Good literacy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in English Language; Level 2 English or above; or equivalent
  • Good numeracy skills- GCSE Grade

Desirable for a SEN teaching assistant:

  • An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent
