Our client, a leading name in the power utilities and energy sector, is seeking a Lead Primary Design Engineer to join a team specialising in substation and cabling projects at both distribution and transmission levels, crucially supporting the UK's decarbonisation targets.
Key Responsibilities:- Leading and mentoring a team of engineers, fostering growth and development
- Acting as the technical authority on primary plant design, including power transformers, AIS/GIS switchgear, cabling, and accessories
- Developing concept and detailed designs in line with DNO and National Grid standards
- Managing project budgets to ensure cost-effective design delivery
- Delivering detailed substation plant designs, including layouts, specifications, and short-circuit calculations
- Ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 regulations and acting as a Principal Designer when required
- Guiding on constructability issues to enhance project efficiency
- Conducting due diligence checks on internal and third-party technical outputs
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (or working towards it)
- Proven experience in substation primary plant design
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Proficient working knowledge of CDM regulations
- Experience in power system studies and earthing design (beneficial)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
