Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Central London – Data Centers – Global Consultancy

We are currently looking for an ambitious and skilled Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join one of the biggest multi-disciplined consultancies in the world. The company is one of the most recognisable consultancies who work on some of the most innovative and exciting projects in the UK.

Due to their continued growth, we are currently looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to work in their London office on a permanent basis focusing on the Data Centre sector within their mission critical facilities team. You will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and technically challenging projects within this fast paced sector.

They are currently involved in numerous projects, working with co-location providers, end users and enterprise clients, both within the UK and across EMEA region.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will support the team in developing conceptual designs for electrical distribution systems from EHV, HV, MV to Low Voltage incorporating high voltage equipment, generation equipment, UPS plant, low voltage switchgear and power control and monitoring systems
  • Provide advice to clients regarding electrical systems/requirements available to meet their business needs.
  • Leading the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment
  • Provide written reports of system options in the form of design development notes.
  • Produce technical specifications for electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements
  • Ensure coordination other disciplines including Architect and Structural engineers
  • Produce calculations, technical/equipment specification documentation for tender.
  • Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with employers’ requirements, design specifications and all relevant safety codes.
  • Be comfortable in a client facing role discussing technical subjects with the ability to discuss and agree client requirements.
  • Work independently and as part of their global project team.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working towards Chartered status) or equivalent experience
  • Technical knowledge of relevant UK & EU regulations, design guides, etc
  • IT literate with a technical understanding of relevant IT packages i.e. Trimble (formally Amtech)
  • An understanding of the ETAP software package for HV modelling (Fault current, current flow & harmonics)
  • An understanding of the Neher-McGrath method of calculating underground cable temperatures & ampacity
  • An understanding of the Tier classifications as defined by The Uptime institute, TIA942 and EN50600
  • Able to work as part of a team as well as ability to effectively lead, direct and mentor individuals
  • Have understanding of working with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Have working knowledge of AutoCAD to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
