Ford & Stanley Talentwise – The Rail Recruitment Experts are seeking a Technician to work with CAF Rail UK on the Brand-New London DLR Trains at Beckton Depot.
The Opportunity
Electrical Technician required in Beckton, East London, to complete essential fault-finding, testing and repair activities on a brand new fleet of driverless DLR trains set to replace some of the current fleet which is over 30 years old, as well as increasing the number of DLR vehicles in service.
Your role will ensure these state-of-the-art vehicles, updated with air conditioning, mobile charging points and improved access facilities, are working in the best condition to maximise the number of vehicles available on the network and ensure customer experience, safety and satisfaction stays at its highest.

Beckton, Newton, East Ham, West Ham, Barking, Woolwich
Hours: The role will start on days but is likely to move onto to shift work from September, to include days, nights and weekendsÂ
Role and Responsibilities
Troubleshoot using electrical schematics, test equipment, and diagnostic software, and carry out corrective repairs necessary to ensure the warranty of the new train’s equipment, including:
- Traction Control and Brakes
- PIS, PA, and CCTV
- Passenger Access Doors
- HVAC
- Auxiliary Electrical Equipment
- Diesel Engines and generator sets
- High voltage systems (pantograph etc.)
- High pressure hydraulics up to 300 bar
- High pressure pneumatics up to 12 bar
- Highly complex cab control systems including GPS positioning and On-track Safety Systems
- Wiring and integration of circuit breakers, relays, transformers, insulators, cabinets, motors, and other associated electrical parts
- Use of a variety of electrical testing equipment including laptop computers with diagnostic software
The Candidate
- The ideal candidate will be dual skilled with an electrical bias and will ideally have worked in a similar position within Rolling Stock previously
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering
- Fault finding and root cause analysis experience
- Able to interpret electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematic diagrams
- Use of diagnostic software
- Use of test and measuring equipment
