About the Role:

We are seeking a Principal Sustainability Officer to play a key role in helping us achieve our Carbon Neutral Plan. Our priorities span across a range of areas, from exploring the commercial benefits of renewable energy and heat networks to developing policies that promote energy efficiency for homes and businesses. The role also involves assessing environmental standards within planning applications.

This is an exciting time to join as we enter the delivery phase of our Carbon Neutral Plan. As a Principal Sustainability Officer, you will act as a specialist adviser, supporting services across the organisation to embed sustainability expertise and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on securing funding and developing innovative solutions to support sustainability initiatives.
  • Procure and manage the delivery of sustainability projects, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Lead engagement with key stakeholders, including the Climate Network, to raise awareness and understanding of sustainability issues.
  • Support the development of policies and strategies to drive energy efficiency across both residential and commercial sectors.
  • Provide expert advice on sustainability considerations throughout planning and development processes.
  • Promote best practices in sustainability and develop strategies to help achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
  • Grow the understanding of sustainability across the organisation and wider community.

Essential Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in sustainability, with a particular focus on carbon neutrality and energy efficiency.
  • Proven track record in securing funding, managing projects, and delivering sustainability initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy solutions, heat networks, and environmental policy.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence decision-making on sustainability matters.
