A well-known Japanese culture hub based in London is currently recruiting a Programming Projects Production Manager (Exhibitions).

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the planning and delivery of exhibition builds and installations, ensuring the highest standards in design, construction, procurement, and health & safety.

The ideal candidate should have strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills, along with a commitment to collaboration and relationship building.

WORKING HOURS: Full-time role of 40 hours per week, inclusive of after-hours project-related tasks (evenings and weekends)

(*) Outside of installation periods, standard working hours are 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, with core hours from 10am to 3pm

SALARY: £36 - 40k, depending on experience

Programming Projects Production Manager (Exhibitions) Main Responsibilities:

  • Planning, coordinating, and delivery of the build and installation and overseeing the maintenance of exhibition programme
  • Liaising in English and Japanese with a range of stakeholders in Japan, the UK and beyond
  • Ensuring the accuracy of technical drawings and creating exhibition layouts and drawings where necessary
  • Organizing and overseeing the construction and dismantling of exhibitions
  • To work sustainably, including recycling and reusing materials where possible
  • To advise on the level of budgets required for technical and exhibition purposes, and to maintain production budgets
  • To manage all relevant insurance and shipping requirements for Japan House London exhibitions
  • Procure estimates and quotations for services including exhibition build and contractors required to deliver exhibitions
  • Ensure that artworks and loaned items are condition checked on arrival and departure
  • Oversee the daily maintenance of exhibitions and care of art works/display objects
  • Produce risk assessments and method statements and ensure adherence to Health and Safety protocols

Programming Projects Production Manager (Exhibitions) Ideal Candidate:

  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience in a similar role with responsibility for exhibition production
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification in a relevant field
  • Professional experience in a similar role with responsibility for exhibition production
  • Business level fluency in both English and Japanese
  • Proven skills managing exhibition planning, production, installation and management
  • Working knowledge of 3D modelling, Vectorworks or other drafting software
  • Excellent knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office suite
  • International shipping management including customs clearance
  • Additional training in associated areas like art handling and logistics
  • Experience in a project-based office environment
  • Experience of working in an inter-cultural environment
  • Understanding of Japanese culture
