We’re seeing sustained growth in the demand for our services and qualifications - as a result, awareness of our work and the importance of international trade to the UK economy, needs to continue growing strongly, especially in the political arena round Westminster.

We are now recruiting a Senior Public Affairs Executive to work in our London office (hybrid model) and support the UK public affairs team. There will also be attendance required at some events and conferences across the year.

JOB BRIEF

The role will be working within the External Affairs department and you will be responsible for supporting the public affairs function in a new role as a Senior Public Affairs Executive.

This will involve a variety of day-to-day work including, but not limited to: stakeholder management, political monitoring, meeting briefings, project coordination and political event planning.

You will also be working closely with many departments, but particularly within the wider External Affairs team, including editorial, public relations, and nations & regions teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Political event support, including liaising with MPs’ offices, co-ordinating with the parliamentary events team and our own internal events team to deliver high-quality events.
  • Consistently producing high-quality internal and external content such as biographical and policy briefings, including contributing to strategic messaging in these briefings.
  • Monitoring political announcements and parliamentary activity consistently and effectively. This includes acting as the day-to-day point of contact for our monitoring service provider and managing the relationship with them.
  • Acting as an effective interlocuter between internal departments on joint projects.
  • Undertaking excellent day-to-day stakeholder management and leading stakeholder mapping processes.
  • Providing research support for stakeholder briefings and relevant policy consultations.
  • Aiding in team thought-leadership endeavours such as brand-building exercises and strategic brainstorming.
  • Supporting on specific projects, e.g. the E-Commerce Trade Commission, which the CIOE&IT chairs.

DESIRED SKILLS SET AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience with a parliamentary or public affairs (or similar) environment.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads effectively. You must be adept at prioritising competing demands, contending with fast-moving events and handling unexpected requests.
  • A keen interest in current affairs and UK policy, including a strong understanding of parliamentary processes.
  • Confidence in taking exploratory or introductory meetings with MPs and wider stakeholders.
  • Strong writing skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Well-organised and a forward-thinking planner.
  • Collaborative team player, with confidence to take initiative.
