City & Capital are currently supporting a fast growing & highly respected investment house and commercial property finance lender who are on a huge growth curve, driven by strong investment, and ambitions to be the leading player in their sector.

We are delighted to be supporting the continued growth of their award winning underwriting function with a view to identifying an ambitious, career focussed and forward thinking Junior Underwriter who can join the team at a genuinely exciting time.

This is a role that comes with a lot of support and development to assist you in developing your technical underwriting skills. Coupled with this is our clients strong & proven promote from within policy which is renowned within the sector for allowing performing and ambitious team member to climb through the ranks quickly, based on success.

This is made all the more likely by plans to double the size of their operation over the next 12 months, having achieved the same feat four times in the last four years! So this really is a 'career opportunity’ for someone, as opposed to 'just another job’

Our client supports property development and investment professionals with access to small or large property backed loans for key projects. The products on offer include bridging finance, development exits, BTL, portfolio BTL and commercial term mortgages. Deal sizes can range from c£250k - c£50m+.

This is a key appointment for the lender at an extremely busy time.

The Junior Underwriter position reports directly in to the 'Head of’ department and offers amazing progression to Underwriter (and eventually Senior Underwriter) once you are established within the business and delivering excellent performance.

Within the role you will work closely with the businesses BDM’s & brokers to assess & support their deals from a credit management perspective. You will manage and maintain your own pipeline of loans for sanctioning and ensure activity is undertaken to allow loans to be funded in line with SLA’s.

In addition to managing your own pipeline of cases, you will also work with the Senior Underwriters members on their complex cases to develop your skillset to allow you to grow. As noted, our client lends large value loans to complex borrowers and so this element of the role and learning can be critical for future success.

Due to the nature of the role the ideal individual will have some experience of working within the mortgage or property finance sector where you have actively worked on cases for potential borrowers with a view to packaging up these deals for funding and/or assessing their viability for funding.

This type of role is most likely to suit a current assistant or junior underwriter, a broker role, someone with extensive case management experience within the property finance sector or an individual that has worked within other credit related roles previously.

Confidence working in a fast paced and dynamic environment will be key. This role is not a tick box exercise, thus experience in the mortgage or commercial property finance sector is critical to be qualified for this position.

Junior Underwriter - Required Experience:

  • Previous experience working within the mortgage or commercial property finance sector
  • May have longstanding/senior case management experience and above
  • Demonstrable success against objectives in previous roles key
  • Experience in dealing with brokers and borrowers directly is sought after

  • Highly analytical & numerical with a strong attention to detail

  • Confident diary manager and results orientated against set deadlines

The salary on offer is up to c£55k, which will be relevant to experience and performance at interview, as you would expect. Higher offers may also be considered for exceptional experience.

In addition our client operates two excellent bonus structures for this position that will reward you for the success that you bring to the company. This structure is uncapped and will assist you with increasing annual earnings substantially based on your delivery. Happy to discuss the detail.

This role will be based in the lenders lovely Mayfair offices, Monday - Friday.
