Senior Finance Officer

We are seeking a Senior Finance Officer to support the Finance Manager and finance team in delivering an efficient and effective financial service. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with statutory guidance and financial regulations, suitable for a professional with a background in finance within the education sector or similar.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Assist in the implementation of financial procedures, processes, and systems
  • Oversee and maintain day-to-day financial and payroll procedures and systems.
  • Provide advisory support to staff on financial matters and deliver training and advice to maintain high standards.
  • Deputise for the Finance Manager as needed and act as a Subject Matter Expert for the financial software.
  • Ensure transactions comply with the financial delegation scheme, procedures, policies, and external regulations.
  • Conduct bank and control account reconciliations and support procurement processes to ensure Value for Money.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records of all transactions and assist in the preparation of monthly management accounting information.
  • Assist in reforecasting and report production for budget holders and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of finance systems, data, procedures, and policies.
  • Prepare for internal and external audits and proactively identify and mitigate financial risks.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a finance role, preferably within the education sector or a similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations and statutory guidance 
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems, with the ability to maintain and operate them effectively.
  • Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and the ability to ensure Value for Money.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
