Innovative & Creative Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the London Borough of Lewisham is seeking a dedicated and passionate Art Teacher/ Teacher of Art / SEMH Teacher (MPS or UPS). This is a Monday to Friday maternity contract to start straight away.
This role requires a dynamic Art Teacher/ Teacher of Art / SEMH Teacher (MPS or UPS) who can deliver fun and engaging KS3 & KS4 art lessons and provide a supportive learning environment for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Class sizes are small, typically up to 5 children per class and will be supported with at least 3 Behaviour TAs in class to support you.
The successful Art Teacher / Teacher of Art / SEMH Teacher must have Qualified Teacher Status.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Proven experience in teaching art, preferably within a PRU or similar setting.
- Experience working with students with SEMH and ASD.
- Strong understanding of the challenges and needs of students with SEMH and ASD.
- Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
- Enhanced DBS on the update service or able to get a new one put in process ASAP.
- You live in easy commutable distance to the London Borough of Lewisham.
- Ability to build strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.

- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality art lessons that cater to the individual needs and abilities of students with SEMH and ASD.
- Develop and implement creative and engaging art curriculum that fosters a positive learning experience.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.
- Monitor and assess students' progress, providing regular feedback and reports to students, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies to provide comprehensive support for students.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Adhere to school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and health and safety requirements.
