Disability Adviser

Are you passionate about supporting students with disabilities and specific learning difficulties? Do you have a positive and enabling attitude towards disability? Our client, an esteemed organisation, is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Disability Adviser to join their team.

This temporary position offers an hourly rate of £25.70.

Duration: ASAP - 20th December 2024 with a high potential of being extended

Working arrangements: Hybrid, one day in the office (dependent on appointments)

As a Disability Adviser, you will play a key role in assessing and providing specialist advice to students and prospective students who identify as disabled and/or have specific learning difficulties. Collaborating with colleagues across the organisation and externally, you will develop and provide proactive support to students who face barriers to their studies due to their impairments and conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify the support entitled to applicants and students with disabilities/ specific learning difficulties.
  • Create Reasonable Adjustments Forms (RAFs) and collaborate with relevant colleagues to ensure implementation.
  • Advise applicants and students on funding opportunities and consult with external bodies to facilitate support.
  • Prioritise and manage student casework, ensuring continuous contact and review of support.
  • Provide specialist advice to an allocated college and contribute to promoting disability awareness.
  • Lead initiatives to promote inclusivity within the organisation and contribute to policy development.
  • Deliver training and workshops to promote inclusivity across the university.
  • Maintain comprehensive records, ensuring compliance with professional standards and GDPR.
  • Participate in relevant meetings and forums, while staying engaged in professional development activities.
  • Provide statistics and analysis to communicate the activities of the Disability Learning Support service.

Requirements:

  • Relevant post-graduate/professional qualification or significant relevant professional experience.
  • Experience supporting individuals with a range of impairments and conditions.
  • Knowledge of the legal framework related to disability support, as well as funding and support available.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and IT skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Empathetic, compassionate, and committed to personal and professional development.
