A national news publisher is appointing a Head of News to lead its ambitious, dynamic and growing newsroom. This crucial role will be responsible for delivering agenda-setting political scoops, high-impact investigations, exclusive series and strong breaking news to build digital engagement. Leading a team of talented editors and reporters, the Head of News will be an experienced digital specialist with the ability to develop and implement innovative strategies that bring journalism to new audiences.

Key responsibilities:

  • Drive and deliver brilliant, accurate and differentiated news content
  • Cultivate a culture of exclusivity with a laser focus on high-impact journalism, identifying and delivering stories that differentiate us from our competitors
  • Generate intelligent, deliverable ideas that elevate news beyond the daily agenda
  • Implement strong news planning systems to develop premium content, with robust organisation and cross-newsroom creativity
  • Embed use of data-driven insights across the newsroom, using metrics to inspire ideas
  • Work with audience colleagues to develop multi-platform content, improving digital storytelling across channels
  • Ensure all news content is bullet-proof, accurate and adheres to the highest standards
  • Oversee management of the news rota, helping to plan staffing for major news events as required

  • Proven experience in a senior news editorial role, preferably in digital journalism
  • Strong track record of delivering exclusive stories that drive audience engagement
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor a diverse team
  • Deep understanding of digital media trends and audience behaviour
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
