Lead Engineer

Our client is a mid sized sport and leisure apparel B2C retailer. They have been on a journey within tech that has involved migrating away from SAP Hybris to MACH and composable architecture that includes a range of saas products, deployed on AWS.

They are looking for a Lead Engineer to architect, develop, and maintain their AWS infrastructure with an event-driven, serverless-first approach. As a testing owner across their architecture, you’ll drive end-to-end testing coverage and ensure comprehensive validation at all layers, delivering resilient, scalable solutions. You’ll also lead in implementing a service/software catalog, building APIs, and managing infrastructure automation.

Responsibilities

  • Cloud Infrastructure Development: Design, develop, and deploy scalable, event-driven cloud solutions on AWS, ensuring secure and efficient operations with a strong focus on serverless and containerised solutions.
  • API Development & Maintenance: Build and optimise APIs using TypeScript and Node.js, ensuring secure, high-performance data communication across distributed systems.
  • Containerisation & Serverless Deployment: Utilise Docker, Lambda, and other serverless tools for efficient, on-demand scaling, focusing on robust, even-driven architectures.
  • Service Catalog & Infrastructure Management: Implement a service catalog and use Terraform for non-serverless infrastructure deployment, creating efficient workflows for internal teams.
  • Testing Ownership & Strategy: Lead and own testing across all architectural layers.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Guide engineers and collaborate closely with cross-funcational teams to build aligned, strategic cloud solutions.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • AWS Expertise: Proficiency in AWS services, including Lambda, ECS, CloudFormation, IAM, and Kinesis or SNS for event-driven architectures
  • Programming Skills: Advanced knowledge of TypeScript and Node.js with a proven track record in scalable API development.
  • Testing Leadership: Extensive experience establishing and leading testing strategies across cloud architectures, with automation-first principles.
  • Containerisation & Orchestration: Proficiency with Docker and orchestration for flexible, containerised solutions.
  • Infrastructure Automation: Expertise in Terraform for deploying and managing non-serverless infrastructure components.
  • eCommerce / Retail experience highly beneficial.

Hybrid 2-3 days a week in London.
