Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral Focus) | Fantastic Secondary School | Haringey

In the heart of Haringey, a fantastic Secondary School is on the hunt for an Assistant Headteacher with a Pastoral, Behaviour and Culture Focus. This is a September 2024 start, full-time, and permanent position, directly employed via the school.

The school is currently on a positive journey with strong and stable SLT in place and has been praised for strong pupil behaviour. You will be joining an exciting / growing trust with plenty of room for CPD throughout. You will play a vital role as a member of the schools SLT, strategically leading all aspects of culture, behaviour and pastoral, including line managing staff. You will contribute to the development of teaching, learning and assessment across the school.

The Head Teacher is dedicated to the school, pupils & staff - this is shown through the low staff turnover throughout the school.

If you are a current Assistant Headteacher looking for a change, or an ambitious, hungry secondary teacher looking to take the step up, then this Assistant Headteacher role may be for you. Ideally you will have leadership experience previously, even if not as an Assistant Headteacher.

The role of a Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral Focus) will involve the following:

  • The leadership of all pastoral aspects of school life, including students' conduct, welfare, and personal development.
  • Overseeing the effective implementation and periodic review of pastoral policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing the work of the year teams (comprising the heads of year, pastoral leaders, and tutors).
  • Regularly reviewing the outcomes of pastoral interventions and initiatives, measuring the effectiveness, and making improvements as necessary.
  • Taking a proactive approach to pastoral care, ensuring appropriate liaison with parents and external parties.
  • Drive attendance, attitudes to learning and safeguarding through strong strategic direction, excellent line management, support and challenge, and clear lines of accountability
  • Assist with the selection and recruitment of new teaching staff
  • Contribute to and participate in the appraisal process
  • Ensure that all new staff members are fully inducted into the school systems, processes and culture Ensuring new staff receive appropriate induction training on child protection and the school's pastoral systems
  • Advising on, and dealing with, any concerns about a student's welfare, and following up concerns, consulting others and signposting agencies if necessary

As a member of the leadership team, you will be expected to:

  • Maintain confidentiality, collective responsibility, and collegiality.
  • Be a source of inspiration, support, and guidance to colleagues.
  • Maintain a visible presence about the school.
  • Set performance expectations and conduct performance evaluation for assigned staff.
  • Contribute to Academy self-evaluation and development planning.
  • Regularly update the pages of the Academy's website for which they are responsible.

  • Ability to coordinate & lead a large team
