Health and Safety Adviser • Location: Battersea London • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm (40 hpw) Occasional Saturdays We are seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of our school’s facilities and departments. This role requires a proactive approach to health and safety management, including conducting audits, managing training, and preparing for inspections. Day to Day of the role: • Conduct a programme of annual health and safety audits, documenting findings and providing support to ensure compliance. • Manage the online health and safety training for staff, maintaining the Training Needs Analysis and advising on further training requirements. • Deliver health and safety inductions, training, and briefings in line with competency levels. • Work closely with external health and safety professionals, facilitating access to facilities, policies, and documentation. • Prepare for Independent School Inspectorate (ISI) inspections and stay updated with Independent Schools Standards Regulations (ISSRs). • Prepare reports for the termly Health and Safety Committee meeting, covering updates on various safety aspects. • Escalate significant health and safety concerns to the Director of Estates. • Monitor risk assessments and maintain a central risk assessment register. • Manage hazardous substances and maintain a central COSHH risk assessment register. • Report accidents and incidents using the online Evolve system and to the HSE when required. • Investigate significant accidents, incidents, or near misses. • Liaise with external agencies such as the HSE or London Fire Brigade when necessary. • Maintain a qualification in first aid and assist with keeping First Aider lists up to date. Education and Training • Requires minimum NEBOSH qualification and experience • NEBOSH Health and Safety qualified within the last 3 years is preferred. • A strong level of IT ability particularly in Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge and Experience • Previous experience for a large estate or school site. • A background in managing workplace H&S and Fire Safety compliance. • Tendering of services.
