Head of Additional Learning Support and Inclusion Learning Main duties & Responsibilities
  • To lead a specialist and dedicated team of Learning support professionals that have a demonstrable impact upon student progress, achievement, retention and personal development
  • To lead learning support and inclusion across inclusive learning and cross college programmes
  • To lead strategically on the growth and demands of learning support working closely with a range of local authorities
  • To lead a team of coordinators to ensure high quality support and inclusion in inclusive and on cross college programmes
  • To be responsible and accountable for the successful operation of the ALS team and to deliver good value for money as well as efficiency and impact
  • To ensure the College is compliant with current and relevant Standards and Guidelines for all aspects of ALS, e.g. assessments, exams, EHCPs, SEND, classroom Support
  • To manage and monitor the budget for learning support and liaise with LA's and the College ALS funding department and to ensure the ALS provision is cost effective and commensurate with the College's allocation
  • To have an excellent understanding of the funding rules and conditions as they apply to ALS including those with EHCP

Head of Additional Learning Support and Inclusion Learning Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the senior leadership team to ensure an ethos of inclusion and support is embedded throughout the college and a culture of high expectations for all students including those with SEND, high needs and other support needs are me Work with the Director of the Student Engagement & Well-being to ensure the college's SEND and inclusion policies are implemented fully, reviewed and monitored regularly
  • Lead on the strategic planning and day-to-day co-ordination of the college's SEND and inclusion polices
  • Develop and maintain highly effective partnerships with external professionals
  • Develop and maintain highly effective partnerships with parents/carers of students with SEND and other support needs
  • Lead on effective management of the learning support budget and ensure good return on investment that has a positive impact on our students
  • Be responsible for the effective deployment of LSAs and college support staff
  • Be responsible for the planning and monitoring LSA timetables on college systems
  • Ensure all staff in the learning support team are making good use of college data systems to record student progress, personal development and achievement
  • Ensure strong professional development programme is in place to support the development of the team
  • Lead colleagues across the college in their understanding and application of the SEND Code of Practice and other emerging themes e.g. the SEND Green Paper
  • Ensure all staff understand the role of EHCPs and co-ordinate effective and timely EHCP review meetings.
  • Develop high quality training and communications for all college staff to ensure that all staff have the knowledge, skills and understanding to plan and teach effectively students with SEND and ensure they make, at least, expected progress and that students' needs are met at College
