Senior Network Engineer

A fantastic permanent opportunity has arisen for our high-profile public-sector client as a Senior Network Engineer. This role is crucial for delivering high-quality ICT services that are vital for the efficient and effective functioning of the organisation. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing and managing network solutions that support operationally critical functions.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Design and Management: Lead the design, planning, and provisioning of solution enhancements within the clients Network Environment.
  • Expert Guidance: Serve as the subject matter expert for the network environment, promoting its use and development.
  • Change Control: Follow the Authority’s change control procedures, ensuring all changes consider business impact and resource implications.
  • Documentation: Maintain architectural designs and supporting documentation for the network environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with various teams to integrate new solutions and developments effectively.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure all network activities adhere to security protocols and data protection laws.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience: Proven track record in network management and design, preferably in a 24x7x365 operational environment. Experience with Cisco network devices and enterprise network management tools is essential.
  • Certification: CCNP or equivalent level of experience.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of WAN and LAN topologies, routing protocols, and TCP/IP networking. Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, security solutions, and data protection regulations.
  • Demonstrable expert knowledge of common networking architectures; technologies and products including, but not limited to:
  • Cisco network devices: 6500/4331 routers, 9200L switches, 9115APs Cisco Nexus 31108
  • Familiarity with traffic analysis products such as:    Sniffer           Wireshark         
  • Network monitoring tools such as:                                SolarWinds     Castlerock SNMPc
  • Cisco Prime Management    Firepower Management Centre (FMC)    

  • Network authentication tools such as:   Cisco ISE   Microsoft AD
  • Wireless products and technologies such as:    Cisco Wireless LAN Controller ((WLC)   Cisco Mobility Services Engine (MSE)
  • Wireless Access Points     

  • Cisco ASA 5500-x NGFW product family
  • VLAN management and administration
  • WAN and LAN based technologies, MPLS, OSPF, Ethernet, VLAN, SD-WAN, SDN
  • MS Teams
  • Physical media types: (UTP “Cat5 & 6” and Fibre “up to 10GB”)
  • Technologies: Wireless, QoS, VoIP, IP Telephony,
  • Expert knowledge of common networking protocols used in a multi-vender network, including:   OSPF, BGP, STP, Ethernet, IPv4 &6, TCP/IP, SIP, H323, Q931, G711, SNMP / MIBII
