Are you a data-savvy professional with a strong foundation in technical data, business strategy, and cross-functional collaboration? Do you have experience working in data transformation within the insurance sector, or are you looking to transition into a management role? We are working with a global general insurer who is looking for a Data Programme Manager / Data Engineering Manager to join their team in London.

About the Role

As part of our Transformation Team, you will work at the intersection of business and technology, driving the evolution of data engineering and science projects that support key business functions such as Underwriting, Sales, and Pricing. This role is designed for someone with a solid understanding of data systems and a desire to manage cross-functional teams. You will act as the bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring that data-driven projects align with broader company goals.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong technical knowledge (SQL, Power BI, Qlik Sense) who is looking to take on more leadership and strategic responsibilities. Alternatively, it's ideal for those with experience in data programmes who want to expand their technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and collaborate across teams within the Transformation Unit (Underwriting, IT, Sales, Product) to ensure the successful delivery of data-driven projects.
  • Act as the key liaison between technical teams and business functions, translating complex business needs into actionable data solutions.
  • Design and implement a new Underwriting Data Warehouse, ensuring it delivers high-quality, accurate data to support Underwriting decisions.
  • Establish data governance frameworks and define key performance indicators (KPIs) for UAT and ongoing quality assurance.
  • Guide the development teams on technical best practices, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals of the business.
  • Manage multiple data projects, optimizing resources and meeting deadlines.
  • Lead UAT testing for data-related projects, ensuring that deliverables meet quality and functionality standards.
  • Develop and mentor team members, fostering their growth in both technical and managerial capacities.
  • Provide strategic insights based on data analysis from sales, platform data, and business performance.

Who You Are

  • You have a background in data programme management or data engineering with exposure to sales, underwriting, and pricing functions in the insurance sector.
  • Your technical expertise includes SQL, Power BI, and Qlik Sense, with a strong understanding of data structures, systems, and governance.
  • You are experienced in driving cross-functional collaboration and can engage effectively with technical experts and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You have a keen ability to analyse data, create reports and dashboards, and use this information to shape business strategy.
  • You possess strong leadership and communication skills, with a focus on fostering collaboration and guiding teams through complex projects.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in pricing and data within the insurance industry.
  • Proficiency in data management, analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ideally, you have exposure to working with actuaries and underwriters.
  • A strong desire to move into a management role, while still applying technical expertise.
  • Previous experience in change management, project governance, and leading teams across multiple functions.
