Police Digital Service strives to be the go-to partner for technology developments and programmes across UK policing. Our team provides technical advice and delivers services to help policing and law enforcement organisations across the UK prioritise and focus on technology effort.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management of all Cyber Operations Specialists and specialist subcontractors, ensuring they are motivated to carry out their responsibilities to the required standard.
  • Support the Information Security Manager, providing specialist advice, reporting and assurance to principal stakeholders within PDS, Policing, Home Office, APCC, NPCC and DDATCC.
  • Co-ordinate support required for the PDS Cyber Services strategy, roadmaps and business plans, bids and business cases to ensure that PDS, PDS CS and Police Forces achieve their short, medium and long-term objectives.
  • Work closely with the Technical Operations team to manage security decision making relating to in life operational platforms, applications and systems defined as national capabilities.
  • Monitor security, technological, social and scientific trends that could influence the National Policing policy and consulting approach and provision of Cyber services.
  • Lead the Cyber Operations Specialist’s in driving operational capability that supports the strategic cyber aims of NPCC IA Portfolio Cyber Services and PDS. Ensuring appropriate controls, mitigations and risk treatment plans, are current, relevant, aligned to standards/guidance and meaningful to the business. Produce relevant risk reports and metrics to communicate risks to relevant stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Advise on necessary technical and procedural governance, control systems, standards and procedures to ensure that decision making for policy and consultancy activities meet business objectives and comply with all legal, regulatory and policy standards, requirements and/or directives, at local and national levels.
  • Ensure the PDS Cyber Services function improves through the talent pipeline, providing development opportunities, reviewing and improving the overall service, ensuring it remains sustainable and relevant.
  • Provide explanations, assessments and information to senior leaders in both written reports and verbal presentations. Adapting the approach to suit the audience, conveying technical risk through a range of delivery channels and, where required, in technical and/or non-technical language articulating the real impact to the business on security risk.

Essential:

  • Experience in a role managing a team of operational security staff.
  • Experience of capability-based planning and delivery of business and IT transformation consultancy support programmes.
  • Proven experience managing supplier relationships in the IT security and cyber operations marketplace.
  • Proven information security and risk management experience in organisations with complex security and compliance requirements. 
  • Experience supporting the design, implementation and operation of security controls.
  • Experience of conducting risk reviews of solutions in cloud service provider environments such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Strong knowledge and ability to demonstrate the use of the NIST Cyber Security Framework, mapping and translating NIST Cyber Security Controls to other frameworks such as ISO27001 and CIS Top 20 controls.
  • Experience in developing strong working relationships with a wide number of stakeholders, particularly in managing expectations across a growing organisation, their suppliers and stakeholder groups.
  • Analytical, literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to research, interpret, compile and write Risk and Compliance reports on PDS and wider policing related issues and risks.
  • Awareness of the Data Protection Act 2018 and other relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to develop, with the aid of subject matter experts where appropriate, and implement appropriate risk mitigation actions for identified risks across the organisation.
  • The ability to produce clear, persuasive written and verbal communications which engage and influence colleagues and external stakeholders at a range of levels.
