Underwriter - Equity Release

Our client is a solution led, specialist mortgage lender, offering a wide variety of later life mortgage products to the market, focussed on the borrowing needs of those aged 50+. They care passionately about their customers and are seeking a customer-centric, experienced underwriter to join their dedicated team.

Our client is ideally recruiting for a permanent underwriter, however will also consider those who are open to contracting.

As their Underwriter, you will underwrite, review and approve their standard mortgage applications within an agreed mandate level, ensuring mortgages are originated within the business risk appetite and in accordance with policies.

The office is based in Fitzrovia, which is easily accessible via public and they can offer a hybrid approach to the working week, with 2 days at their head office and the remainder working remotely if you so wish.

Duties of the Underwriter will include:

  • Managing a busy pipeline of applications from submission to completion.
  • Having the ability to make sound discretionary lending decisions within an agreed risk appetite and Lending Policy.
  • Exercising discretion on cases outside of standard lending policy.
  • Obtain and retain a lending mandate.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Previous manual underwriting experience within equity release mortgages.
  • A customer focussed individual and a real team player, someone who can build effective working relations, often remotely
  • Attention to detail and a positive attitude to constantly learning
