We are delighted to be representing University, based in London, who are looking to appoint an Employment Solicitor on a 6-month temporary contract, with a view to go permanent thereafter.

This position is due to start immediately on a part time basis, with an office presence needed once a week and the hourly rate is negotiable based on experience.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing advice on employment and related law which could include: recruitment; employment contracts; disciplinaries and grievances; harassment and bullying; long-term absences; reasonable adjustments; whistleblowing; reward and recognition; statutory consultation, redundancy and dismissal; settlement agreements; trades unions and industrial action; and TUPE
  • Advising and supporting individuals conducting hearings and investigations under the Universities policies and procedures
  • Helping to assess whether matters need to be referred to external lawyers and working collaboratively with external solicitors and counsel
  • Managing case work in Employment Tribunals and Courts, helping draft submissions and preparing employees giving evidence
  • Advising on HR policies and processes, providing guidance and training to POD and the wider University around employment law issues such as disciplinaries and grievances, long-term absences, etc. to ensure consistency and help implement best practice;
  • Contributing to the development of the Legal Services team, training and mentoring junior colleagues, assisting in building precedent banks and knowledge materials

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive (or equivalent experience)
  • Recent experience working with Higher Education or public or third sector organisations
  • Strong up-to-date knowledge across a broad range of employment and related law

Working hours:

  • 21 hours per week
  • No working set days
  • Can show flexible hours
