We're currently searching for a Senior Legal Counsel to join a leading Education Technology division as they continue with their global expansion. We need someone with experience providing legal counsel and guidance in the rapidly evolving landscape of education and digital innovation. The Legal Counsel's role will involve understanding the complexities surrounding compliance with relevant laws and regulations, negotiating and drafting contracts, and advising on legal proceedings as they arise.

Key Responsibilities - Legal Counsel:

Technology Platform

Supporting the Group’s Legal Department and Chief Information Officer on building out the Group’s Technology Platform including:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements related to technology transactions, including software licences, service level agreements (SLAs), technology development agreements, SaaS agreements, data protection agreements, terms of service, and technology transfer agreements.
  • Staying updated on relevant technology laws / regulations and industry standards impacting the sector, such as cybersecurity laws and data protection regulations.

Digital Innovations

  • Creating templates and advice notes for operational teams.
  • Co-ordinating advice and key deliverables from external counsel.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts (including software and data processing).

Regulatory Compliance

  • Working closely with the Group Compliance team to instruct external counsel and implement advice in respect of data privacy and ethics (particularly sensitive information concerning minors), AI regulation and online safety matters as well as any other areas of key legal or regulatory risk that may arise on strategic projects.
  • Identifying legal risks and issues associated with technology initiatives / transactions and developing strategies to mitigate these risks.

Intellectual Property

  • Advising on strategies to protect the Group’s intellectual property rights arising in this arena (including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets).
  • Assisting in the registration and enforcement of intellectual property rights and the handling of any disputes related to their infringement or misappropriation.

Experience required - Legal Counsel:

  • Preferably qualified in England, Australia, US or another commonwealth jurisdiction with post qualified experience
  • Training in an international or well-regarded global or national firm, preferably having qualified in or gained experience in a corporate/commercial role or department
  • Experience in managing cross border transactions in a fast-paced environment
  • Exposure to SaaS agreements and/or technology transactions desirable
  • Previous in-house experience is desirable
  • Hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure or equivalent for countries lived in outside of the UK
  • Compliance with visa requirements for working in UK.
