Patent Litigation Senior Associate

We are seeking a Patent Litigation Senior Associate to join our dynamic team in London and Bristol. This role involves working on complex patent and trade secret disputes, including UK litigation, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and related advisory services such as freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis, patentability, and trade secrets advice. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate with partners and colleagues across various jurisdictions globally, making it ideal for candidates with a passion for international legal work.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Advisory Services: Conduct intellectual property (IP) audits and provide guidance on policies, procedures, and contractual terms to optimize research and development investments and mitigate patent risks.
  • Transactional Work: Draft and negotiate assignments, licenses, research and development agreements, and joint ventures.
  • Corporate Support: Assist with due diligence, sale and purchase agreement (SPA) contractual terms, IP aspects of employment agreements, patent assignments, and licensing.
  • Client Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong client relationships, and play a pivotal role in supervising and mentoring junior team members.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience: Ideally, 4 to 8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in multi-jurisdictional patent litigation. UK experience required.
  • Sector Expertise: A strong background in the Technology and/or Life Sciences sectors is essential. Experience in Industrials, Energy & Natural Resources, and Consumer Goods, Fashion & Retail (CGFR) sectors is a plus.
  • Academic Credentials: Excellent academic background with a focus on patent litigation.
  • Skills: Outstanding interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of technical issues relevant to clients, and a commercially focused mindset.
  • Networking: Ability to build and expand a network of internal and external contacts.
  • Professional Standards: Adherence to professional standards and regulatory obligations is crucial.
