Venn Group is working with a local authority in London in their search for a part-time Planning Lawyer on a locum basis for an initial 3-month contract, with the potential to be extended.

Requirements:

  • Qualified legal professional with relevant planning law experience
  • Proven track record in providing planning and highways legal advice
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and handle complex legal matters
  • Strong communication skills and the capacity to build positive working relationships

Duties/Responsibilities:Supporting the Principal Lawyer, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Car-free undertakings: You will be responsible for drafting and negotiating agreements ensuring developments adhere to car-free conditions, contributing to sustainable urban planning.
  • Small Sites and car-free undertakings: Handle legal work related to small development sites, ensuring they meet local planning requirements, including car-free conditions.
  • Highways agreements: Draft, review, and negotiate Section 38 and Section 278 agreements, ensuring that highways are properly integrated into development plans and comply with local government policies.
  • Advice on highways issues: Provide comprehensive legal advice on highways-related matters, ensuring all developments meet statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Over-sail licences: Handle the drafting and negotiation of over-sail licences for construction projects that involve building over public spaces or adjacent properties.
  • Rent and Nomination agreements: Prepare and negotiate rent and nomination agreements, ensuring that the terms benefit both the local authority and other stakeholders involved.
  • Section 106 agreements: Manage the day-to-day preparation and negotiation of S106 agreements for development projects, and support senior lawyers on more complex agreements involving affordable housing, infrastructure contributions, or public services.
  • General planning advice: Provide legal guidance on a wide range of planning issues, including development control, environmental impact, and local authority policies.
