Planning Lawyer - London Borough Council

Location: LondonRate: £55-60 per hour DOEContract Type: 6 months - with view to extend

We are seeking an experienced Planning Lawyer to provide high-quality legal services to support the Planning, Highways, and Specialist Planning Teams. This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional with expertise in planning and environmental law to work within a dynamic and forward-thinking local authority legal team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the Council in Civil and Criminal Courts, Tribunals, and Planning Inquiries.
  • Draft and negotiate legal documents, including Section 106 agreements.
  • Provide expert legal advice on planning, highways, and environmental law.
  • Support committee meetings, working parties, and officer groups with legal guidance.
  • Keep clients, Members, and officers informed on new legislation and case law.
  • Assist in the development of Council policies by providing legal comments and training.
  • Ensure compliance with Legal Services Lexcel standards and time recording requirements.
Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive in England and Wales.
  • Experience in Planning, Highways, and/or Environmental Law.
  • Strong advocacy, negotiation, and legal drafting skills.
  • Ability to manage a complex and substantial caseload.
  • Strong understanding of Local Government law and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
