My client is seeking an In-House Private Client Solicitor to work closely with the Chief Taxation Adviser in developing and promoting the organisation’s taxation policy. This role involves providing expert advice on private client issues including wills, trusts, and probate, with a focus on succession planning and taxation matters affecting land and rural businesses in England and Wales.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Advice Provision: Offer guidance to members on private client issues, succession planning, and taxation of land, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in line with service standards.
  • Policy Development: Assist in the formulation and coordination of tax policy, respond to consultation papers, and liaise with stakeholders to develop informed stances.
  • Committee Support: Provide secretariat support for the Tax Committee, draft briefing papers, and implement committee decisions.
  • Lobbying and Communications: Engage in lobbying activities and media relations, including writing press releases, briefing journalists, and representing the organisation as a spokesperson.
  • Marketing Support: Collaborate with the marketing team to produce relevant materials and contribute to marketing strategies.
  • General Responsibilities: Attend and contribute to internal and external meetings and events, maintain a high level of personal expertise, and provide briefings on relevant topics as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualifications: Solicitor.
  • Professional Skills: Extensive knowledge of private client issues, inheritance tax (IHT), capital gains tax (CGT), and the taxation of rural businesses. Experience advising landowners and farmers is essential.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, ability to handle complex issues professionally, self-motivated, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
  • Rural Knowledge: Strong understanding of the issues affecting rural land managers and businesses.
  • IT Literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office, familiar with CRM systems, and competent in using the internet for research.
