Risk & Compliance Counsel (Europe)

An elite global law firm with world-class practices across the board is seeking to hire a Risk & Compliance Counsel (Europe) to join their London office on a full-time basis.  Including reporting into the Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP), Data Protection Partner and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and will be responsible for the AML and MAR processes for the firm’s offices in Europe (London, Paris, and Madrid).

Key Responsibilities of the Risk & Compliance Counsel (Europe):

  • Act as the main point of contact for and advise the Firm on compliance related matters in the London office
  • The role provides support to the firm’s US offices and General Counsel’s Office regarding the application and implementation of applicable European legislation, including data protection, criminal finances/failure to prevent, AML Regulations and MAR
  • Provide leadership on risk management and maintain the Firm’s risk, breach, data breach, complaints and gifts & hospitality registers. Recommend and implement solutions to ensure continued compliance and mitigate identified risks
  • Provide a contract/TOB review service for both outside counsel terms working with General Counsel, and business-related contracts in London
  • Provide leadership and advice to the firm in connection with regulatory and legislative matters, as well as provide support to the firm’s US offices and General Counsel’s Office regarding the application and implementation of applicable European Legislation, and work closely and provide support to the AML and Accounts teams based in the Hong Kong office in relation to AML compliance and related matters in Asia
  • Lead audits for key clients creating processes and adapting policies where required
  • Work with the COLP and the Operational Management Team in London to ensure that the Firm’s practice in England & Wales is compliant with the SRA’s Code of Conduct/Standards & Regulations

Skills & Requirements of the Risk & Compliance Counsel (Europe):

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales, or other jurisdictions
  • Previous experience in a senior level compliance role in a law firm
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the regulations governing a law firm in England & Wales
