Library Assistant

Contract: Until 28th November 2025

Salary: £16.53 per hour

Location: E20 - Near Stratford or Puddling Mill Lane

Hours: Monday - Friday (8:40am - 5pm)

Responsibilities:

The role focuses on delivering exceptional customer service and clerical support for library resources, facilities, and outreach, including technology, social media, and estate maintenance. The post holder will provide first-line and administrative support within the library team, managing learning spaces and ensuring high standards of service.

Customer Service and Enquiries

  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer enquiries at the Library help point, via LibChat (live chat service), or while within the library
  • Assist customers with library services such as borrowing, membership, and online resources, referring complex queries to the Deputy Library Manager.
  • Support loan services, including processing Click & Collect, Stores, and Inter-library loan materials, which may involve moving book trolleys and lifting heavy items.
  • Checking reading lists and assisting with adding lists to the ReadingLists
  • After training, address basic IT and student support enquiries, escalating more complex issues as needed.
  • Share user feedback and suggestions with relevant teams to drive continuous service improvement.
  • Conduct orientation tours for new library customers.
  • Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting technology, including self-service equipment, multi-functional devices (printing/copying), laptop loans, Wi-Fi, and Desktop PCs.
  • Ensure library spaces are clean, well-maintained, and issues are recorded and resolved efficiently with minimal disruption to customers.
  • Support Health and Safety inspections and monitoring.
  • Uphold Library Regulations and ensure compliance.
