Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Leading Green-Tech Company

Lynx has partnered with an innovative UK-based green-tech company, operating globally, dedicated to decarbonising part of the energy sector through ground-breaking solar thermal technologies. The mission is to enable the transition to a zero-carbon future, addressing one of the most significant contributors to carbon emissions.

They’re seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of renewable heating systems for commercial and industrial buildings. You'll head a growing engineering team and be responsible for end-to-end design projects incorporating cutting-edge solar heat and power technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow an engineering team
  • Design safe, reliable, and economical renewable heating systems
  • Prepare comprehensive system designs including P&ID designs, roof layouts, and component sizing
  • Conduct structural analysis and cost engineering
  • Manage client relationships and stakeholder engagement
  • Sign off on designs and maintain design liability
  • Collaborate with commercial teams on project tenders

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • 10+ years in M&E design engineering
  • Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualification
  • Proven experience in HVAC and/or building services
  • Proficiency in engineering drawing and design tools (e.g., AutoCAD)
  • Confident in performing and signing off designs up to RIBA stage 4 and beyond
  • Strong knowledge of relevant building standards and regulations
  • Experience working with clients, architects, and construction companies

Desirable Experience:

  • Solar or other renewable energy systems
  • Commercial and industrial building services

Location & Working Pattern:

  • Hybrid working available (40% office-based)
  • Offices in Crawley or London, 40% on site at either location
  • Full-time with flexible working considered
