Your RoleAs the Nature Conservation Manager, you will oversee the management of our Ecology Centre, three Local Nature Reserves, and a dedicated team of conservation professionals. You will be responsible for delivering a high-quality programme of environmental education, community engagement, and events, as well as managing the facilities and operations of the Ecology Centre. A key part of your role will be to drive our biodiversity agenda, overseeing our Biodiversity Action Plan and advising on ecological matters in planning and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Nature Conservation Team, including the supervision of staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure the effective operation of the Ecology Centre as an educational and community resource, including managing bookings, maintenance, security, and health and safety.
  • Develop and promote a diverse programme of environmental education and community events to engage a wide range of audiences.
  • Oversee the management and development of Local Nature Reserves and other conservation sites, ensuring they are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Provide expert ecological advice to support planning applications and promote Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Collaborate with community groups, schools, and other stakeholders to maximise participation in nature conservation activities.
  • Manage budgets effectively and meet income targets for the Ecology Centre.
  • Promote the organisation's biodiversity objectives and integrate them into relevant local policies and plans.

About YouTo succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A relevant qualification in an environmental discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience managing nature reserves, parks, or other open spaces.
  • Proven experience in managing staff or volunteers, delivering environmental education, and managing facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of biodiversity policies and legislation, particularly as they apply to urban environments and planning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build effective partnerships.
  • Proven project management skills and experience managing budgets.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and equality in all aspects of your work.
