Disrepair Officer

Our Client is seeking a dedicated Disrepair Officer to join our Housing Asset Management team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of our housing repairs service, tackling statutory disrepair cases, and improving service delivery across the borough.

The Role:

  • Investigate and resolve complex disrepair cases, including statutory nuisance and structural repairs.
  • Provide expert technical advice and prepare detailed specifications of work, risk assessments, and cost estimates.
  • Manage and monitor the quality of repairs and major works, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards and legal obligations.
  • Supervise internal and external contractors to ensure timely and high-quality completion of work.
  • Represent the Council in court as an expert witness, preparing reports and providing evidence.
  • Respond to Ombudsman enquiries and work collaboratively with Legal Services, tenants, and leaseholders to resolve disputes.
  • Conduct quality inspections, audits, and health and safety checks across housing properties.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor KPIs, and make recommendations for service improvements.

The Candidate:

  • Proven experience in a similar technical or surveying role, ideally within housing disrepair or asset management.
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, disrepair protocols, and health & safety standards.
  • Ability to manage and monitor a variable caseload, conduct diagnostic surveys, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to negotiate with tenants, leaseholders, legal professionals, and contractors.
  • Proficiency in using IT systems for case management and reporting.
  • Valid driving license and access to a suitable vehicle for site visits across the borough.
