Job Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Assistant to manage the end-to-end in-house payroll process for approximately 350 staff members in the UK. The ideal candidate will be confident with BACS payments, manual tax calculations, and statutory obligations. You will collaborate closely with HR to ensure accurate employee data and maintain compliance with HMRC regulations. Additionally, you will support all monthly and annual reporting activities, while ensuring all payroll deadlines are met efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the full in-house UK payroll process for 350 staff members.
  2. Collaborate with the HR department to maintain and update employee data.
  3. Confidently handle BACS payments and manual tax, National Insurance (NI), and statutory calculations.
  4. Support the preparation and submission of monthly and yearly payroll reports.
  5. Ensure all payroll-related deadlines are met, and payments are reconciled and processed on time.
  6. Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, including submitting RTI (Real-Time Information) filings.
  7. Issue relevant HMRC forms, including P45, P60, and P11D.
  8. Resolve employee payroll queries in a timely and professional manner.
  9. Assist with all ad-hoc payroll tasks and special projects as required.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 2 years of payroll experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong numeracy skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • A proactive team player with a positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with HMRC submissions and UK payroll regulations.
  • Experience with payroll software (mention specific software if relevant).
