We are pleased to be partnering with SOAS University of London, as they look to bring on a Senior Planning Officer as a member of their team take on a Secondment within the organisation. The Planning team is responsible for supporting the School’s strategic and operational planning processes; for collating all student related data returns to external bodies; for leading on the School’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) submissions to the Office for Students; and for the provision of robust, relevant and reliable management information to inform decision making within the School.

The role involves supporting the provision of high quality analysis and reporting to internal stakeholders across the School. Examples of the task the role holder will be asked to perform include presenting information in support of planning activity across the School, supporting the School’s drive for continuous improvement in teaching excellence and the student experience, and analysing league table results.

Tasks:

  • Collate, analyse, interpret and present data and information to underpin planning activity across the School - for example league table reports and the department information packs
  • Run standard planning reports (e.g. enrolment reports, NSS response rates) and disseminate results
  • Respond to ad hoc queries from Planning stakeholders including responding to Freedom of Information requests.
  • Support the Head of Planning and Planning team in implementing the planning framework
  • Undertake analysis in support of the Head of Planning, Senior Planning Officers, and other stakeholders as required
  • Support the Head of Planning in reporting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Performance Indicators (PIs)
  • Maintain the SOAS Info Hub (or equivalent) to ensure it is up to date
  • Undertake ad hoc projects as required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement within the Planning team, including the use of business intelligence tools

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of working within Higher Education, preferably in a central Planning Office or Faculty Office context.
  • A proven track record of data interrogation and manipulation to visualise trends and patterns for internal stakeholders.
  • An awareness of the issues affecting the Higher Education sector.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Excel, including writing and trouble-shooting complex formulas, creating and modifying pivot tables and visualising data using graphs/charts.
