A secondary school in Newham are looking for a candidate who is happy to work as a Behaviour Improvement Officer within the Exclusion department, they will provide support and mentoring to students who are struggling to work within a classroom setting and support them through one-to-one support and with their work. They will work across KS3,4 & 5.

This would be a great opportunity for anyone who has an interest in Pastoral or Wellbeing support and may be looking to go into a qualified mentoring role in the future. You will report to the Student Manager and ensure the health and safety of all students in your care is priority. You will also be checking that students are in lessons at the designated times and be raising any concerns with the student manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • To be prepared to support and guide students within an exclusion setting.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment at all times minimizing disruption to learning
  • Manage student conduct with positive reinforcement adhering to school policies at all times.
  • Liaise with other staff members to ensure that plans are put in place to support the students
  • Work with departments within school and outside agencies as required

Preferred Skills

  • Hold the relevant experience of working in a similar setting or a coaching or mentoring qualification
  • Have the ability to deescalate difficult situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Have a good understanding of the responsibility for personal health, safety, and welfare of students
  • Be able to prioritise work schedules and multi task
  • Hold a valid DBS or apply for one
