Our client is currently seeking a Principal Planning Policy Officer on a contract basis. The role involves a crucial function within the Planning Service, with responsibilities that span the preparation and implementation of both statutory and non-statutory Local Plan documents, and the monitoring of their application. The team focuses on developing and sustaining the planning policy evidence base, and also takes charge of the Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP) and sourcing funding via the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).



Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting and maintaining the Council's planning policy evidence base
  • Preparation and management of Local Plan documents, including statutory and non-statutory elements
  • Ensuring effective consultation and examination processes for planning documents
  • Monitoring the implementation of planning policies and plans
  • Developing and overseeing the Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP)
  • Securing funding for infrastructure projects through the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)
  • Providing expert planning policy input on complex planning and related applications


Job Requirements:

  • Experience in planning policy within a similar role
  • Strong understanding of statutory and non-statutory Local Plan preparation
  • Ability to monitor, evaluate, and maintain planning policies and their implementation
  • Proficiency in developing and managing the Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP)
  • Experience in securing and managing funds via the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)
  • Expertise in handling complex planning applications
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organisational skills
