We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Assistant to join our team.

Role Overview:As a Behaviour Assistant, you will work closely with children who have behavioural needs, supporting them in both 1:1 and small group settings. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring that these students can fully engage with their learning, develop positive social behaviours, and improve their emotional regulation.

You will work alongside teachers, teaching assistants, and other professionals to create and implement effective strategies and interventions that promote positive behaviour and enhance the learning experience for children with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to children with behavioural needs, helping them manage emotions, social interactions, and classroom behaviour.
  • Work with small groups of children to support the development of social and behavioural skills.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual behaviour plans tailored to each child's specific needs.
  • Promote and encourage positive behaviour, self-regulation, and resilience in children.
  • Support children in managing challenging behaviours by using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Work closely with teachers to observe and monitor students' progress and contribute to the planning of lessons and activities that support behavioural development.
  • Assist with recording and tracking behavioural data to inform ongoing strategies and interventions.
  • Provide feedback and advice to parents, guardians, and other professionals involved in the child's development.
  • Create a calm, safe, and positive environment that encourages learning and personal growth.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a school or educational setting.
  • A solid understanding of behavioural issues in children, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Knowledge of behavioural management strategies, including de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour support.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with children and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, proactive approach to supporting children's emotional and behavioural development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, as well as independently when required.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
