Technical and Business Lead - 2-month contract, £550 - £650 a day (outside ir35), Full-time, with 3-4 days on-site a week, Westminster I am currently recruiting for a Technical and Business Lead, for a 2-month contract working for the Department for Business and Trade.

The government has tasked the Government's Chief Scientific Adviser (GCSA) and the National Technology Adviser (NTA) to lead a review of barriers to the adoption of transformative technologies that could enhance productivity, with a focus on the growth-driving sectors identified in the Industrial Strategy green paper.

The Technical and Business Lead will bring their experience and knowledge to bear on how policy recommendations might apply to different technologies as well as in the context of sector, business size and business location. They will work to ensure recommendations are workable and useful to businesses, with a focus on medium-sized businesses. It is vital that these policy recommendations are respectful of the heterogeneity of the UK's high-growth sectors, while also being scalable at the regional and national level.The review will identify the barriers businesses face when adopting both established and novel technologies, building from existing analysis, industry insights, and the forthcoming AI Opportunities Action Plan. It will also provide practical recommendations on how the government can work with businesses to address these obstacles.Working in a team that embodies this government's vision of an agile, silo-breaking civil service with a 'start-up' mentality. They have a flat structure and task-orientated approach where our people collaborate on every challenge, bringing their diverse experience and skills to bear.

As the team moves now into synthesising the evidence and developing policy recommendations, this role will provide "SME" with tech adoption, ideally with experience of policy programme design and/or advising individual firms on tech adoption.

Key skills:

  • Good tech knowledge is desirable (from enterprise software, to photonics).
  • Business knowledge and economic analysis
  • Strong programme/policy design experience
  • Business tech advisory experience is highly desirable;
  • Experience of one of the 8 high-growth sectors of the industrial strategy (advanced manufacturing or PBS) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of digital and hardware where adoption lags amongst some firms.
  • Ability to work at pace and resilience.
