Communications and Press Officer
Greater London Authority, one of our largest public sector organisations based in London are seeking a Communications and Press Officer to provide comprehensive communications, research, casework, and information support to Assembly Members. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in policy briefing within a political or public sector organisation and who are adept at managing diverse and high-profile stakeholder interactions in a dynamic environment.
- Hourly Rate: £21.61 per hour via PAYE or £27.48 per hour via Umbrella
- Location: Hybrid - Remote / City Hall, London, E16 (3 days from office and 2 days from home
- Job Type: Contract – 3 months (possibilities of further extensions to cover secondment till end of December 2025)
Day-to-day of the role:
- Conduct thorough research and develop policy briefings, advice, and support for Assembly Members across their GLA functions.
- Produce high-quality public affairs support, including policy or constituency issue reports to publication standards.
- Serve as the first point of contact for the allocated Assembly Member(s), effectively representing their views and interests both internally and externally.
- Manage all correspondence and casework for the Member, ensuring professional and timely responses.
- Coordinate the Assembly Member(s)'s contributions to Assembly meetings, including preparation for Mayor’s Question Time and motions, in liaison with the Team Manager and other colleagues.
- Uphold the Authority’s policies, Code of Ethics and Standards, promoting equality of opportunities and addressing the diverse needs of London’s communities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrable research skills with a proven ability to quickly assimilate information from various sources on a wide range of policy topics.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of producing various documents for different audiences under tight deadlines.
- Experience in media-related document production and briefing for media interviews.
- Experience working with high-profile individuals in a pressured environment, handling confidential/sensitive issues.
