Climate17 is excited to be working with a heat network consultancy playing a leading role in the decarbonisation of heat in the UK.As the Estimator / Surveyor, you will manage project costs and support the design and project delivery as well as wider the wider business, with advice and support with cost planning, procurement, tender support and payment applications/final accounts.The role will require a mix of commercial, cost and strong stakeholder management. You must be proactive and comfortable working with minimal supervision. You must be engaged in your own personal development as it is essential the Estimator / Surveyor maintains currency and competency with all relevant legislation.You will be supporting our project delivery and engineering teams, working on a range of live heat network construction projects of the following typical scope:
  • Plantroom and network end of life equipment replacements.
  • Full plantroom and network retrofits to improve performance (e.g. Heat Network Efficiency Scheme funded projects).
  • Heat pump retrofits to decarbonise existing buildings (e.g. PSDS project delivery management).
  • HIU and heat meter upgrade/replacement works.
  • District Heating project installations, including energy centers, buried networks and substation plantrooms.
Job Requirements:
  • A Diploma in Commercial or Quantity Surveying (or equivalent).
  • Working towards membership of the RICS / CIOB.
  • Experience within the Energy, M&E and Civil Engineering industries.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on own initiative.
  • Strong financial and commercial experience with the ability to analyse and interpret numerical data and information in a clear and logical format.
  • Experience of tender assessment and negotiation.
  • Demonstratable experience of working and advising clients during construction projects.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage strong relationships with Stakeholders and Clients.
  • A CSCS / SKILLcard.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft programmes and applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
The following will strengthen your application:
  • APM Project Management Qualification
  • CP1 Heat Networks Code of Practice Certificate
  • Direct experience of commercial management during the delivery of internal building communal heating system upgrade works (dwelling, network and plantroom).
  • Direct experience of commercial monitoring and reporting during major Energy Centre and/or buried network projects for large scale District Heating networks.
  • Knowledge of District Heating network systems.
  • Knowledge of Utility services
Job ResponsibilityYou will be expected to provide mentorship to all project managers, engineers and the leadership team ensuring the upskilling and knowledge growth of these individuals. You will also be expected to support the wider team in developing commercial competence within the business as well as:Support in identifying, scoping, receiving management sign off and then project managing through:
  • Business improvement tools such as new processes and documentation
  • New ways of working e.g. more efficient utilisation of resources.
Support business development activity and project management of FairHeat projects by:
  • Assisting the Associate / Principal Engineer in producing quotes for projects, based on calculation of likely time cost against client requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships and ensuring these grow overtime into successful long-term partnerships.
  • Assisting the Head of Delivery in managing projects to ensure safe delivery within time and cost, ensuring clear, timely communication to both clients and the MD when likely overruns are identified.
