Head of Research, Policy and Impact

We are pleased to be working exclusively with Thomson Foundation to recruit this new and exciting role.

The Company:For more than 60 years, Thomson has been working with independent media globally. Thomson helps media innovate to survive and grow, supports journalists working in difficult places, shows communicators how to tell their stories and connects media and civil society with governments, donors and tech around the biggest challenges of our age. Thomson's work focuses on three areas: Thomson Learning - training of media and development communicators; Thomson Advisory - sustainability, audience and tech, as well as research and policy; and Thomson Talks - thought leadership and championing excellence in journalism.

Thomson's work is funded by institutional donors, philanthropy and some commercial entities.

The Role:This role has been created to capitalise on the extensive research Thomson conducts and also to add commercial value to the work. Thomson has a strong research product which focusses, among other things, on audience research in some of the world's most challenging environments where independent media is under threat and disinformation is rife.

You will lead all research across the organisation working with programming and development to ensure that the insights delivered inform policy - internally and externally - and guide programming.

A core purpose of this role is to use the data gathered through research to create other products and services that will generate income for the organisation and draw in new funding.

You will lead all M&E across the organisation ensuring the design of frameworks to measure the outcomes of Thomson's work and report back to donors.

Clients are institutional donors and philanthropic bodies so you will be working with a broad range of stakeholders meaning that a flexible and dynamic approach is key to success. Some experience of working with large public sector bodies would also be very useful.

You should be an experienced researcher with experience in a broad range of methodologies, qual, quant, open source and you should be willing to be hands on whilst you grow this aspect of work and the team. You must be highly commercial with proven experience of generating revenue from research - this is non-negotiable within this role.

Salary: £DOE

Location:Flexible location and fully remote option is available, but must be compatible with UK/EU time zones. For candidates based in London/Berlin, the role is hybrid, with 2 days per week in-office

Closing Date: 24 October 2024
