Personal Advisor

Tower Hamlets

£23/hr

Full time: 36/hrs a week

Hatched Recruitment is working closely with the local authorities and we are looking for a Personal Advisor - Leaving care service in the Tower Hamlets area.

Your Personal Advisor will:

* visit and meet with you regularly to think about your current and future life goals, and help to think through how best to support your plans via the Pathway Plan

* provide information about opportunities and choices that are open to you

* encourage and support you in going as far as you can with your education

* ensure you receive advice and guidance with jobs, careers and training

* support you with all aspects of your health as you get older

* support you up to the age of 25 dependent on the support you are requesting

Knowledge

1. Knowledge of child care legislation including the Children Act 1989 and associated guidelines and regulations.

2. Understanding of the powers and duties of a Local Authority in relation to children looked-after and young people leaving care.

3. Knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following:

  • Education provisions, benefits and grants for care leavers.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues impacting on Asylum Seeking and Unaccompanied children and young people.
  • Knowledge of accommodation issues faced by care leavers, welfare housing benefits, supported housing and permanent accommodation, education, training and employment in relation to care leavers.
  • Understanding of the processes of involving users in design and delivery of services.

Qualifications & Experience

1. High standard of numeracy and literacy ideally at further or higher education level.

2. Undertaking high quality and analytical Pathway Assessments, Human Rights Assessments, Personal Educational Plans, and the Pathway Planning process for looked-after children and young people.

3. Direct work experience with children in care and leaving care, as individuals and in groups.

4. Experience of working with young people who have suffered the effects of social exclusion within a multi-cultural, inner city environment.
