Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of registered nurses, healthcare assistants, and junior staff. Provide guidance and support to nursing staff to enhance their clinical skills and improve the quality of care delivered.
- Patient Assessment & Care Planning: Conduct thorough assessments of patients with mental health conditions, including risk assessments, and develop individualized care plans. Ensure that care plans are regularly reviewed and adapted to meet the evolving needs of patients.
- Clinical Interventions: Provide advanced nursing interventions in the management and treatment of mental health conditions, including administering medications, therapeutic techniques, and crisis interventions. Monitor patients' progress and make necessary adjustments to care plans.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic, integrated care. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to discuss treatment plans and patient progress.
- Mental Health Legislation & Compliance: Ensure that all nursing practices comply with mental health legislation, including the Mental Health Act, and adhere to professional standards and guidelines. Advocate for patients' rights and ensure their legal and ethical needs are met.
- Risk Management & Safety: Lead on risk management for patients, ensuring safe environments and identifying potential risks to patient and staff safety. Address any incidents or issues promptly, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
- Training & Development: Take responsibility for the professional development of nursing staff, delivering training, supervising clinical practice, and supporting ongoing learning. Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and best practices in mental health nursing.
- Patient Advocacy & Support: Act as a key advocate for patients, supporting their voices and ensuring their care needs are met with dignity and respect. Build trusting relationships with patients and provide emotional and psychological support.
- Clinical Governance & Audits: Contribute to clinical governance initiatives, including audits, incident reviews, and quality improvement projects. Ensure that care is delivered to the highest standards and in line with current evidence-based practices.
