Join a Collaborative and Forward-Thinking Mental Health Team
Westminster City Council is looking for dedicated and compassionate Social Workers to join our Mental Health teams. As part of a highly supportive and multi-disciplinary environment, you will work closely with NHS colleagues, community partners, and other professionals to improve the lives of adults with complex mental health needs.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a borough that values innovative and person-centred social work, ensuring residents receive the best possible care and support. Whether you are an experienced social worker or looking to develop your skills further, we will provide the training and career development you need to succeed.
The Role
As a Social Worker in one of our Community Mental Health Teams, you will:
- Carry out statutory assessments under the Care Act 2014, ensuring individuals receive the right level of support to maintain their independence.
- Work closely with individuals, families, and carers to create person-centred support plans that address their specific needs and strengths.
- Develop and implement safeguarding plans to protect vulnerable residents.
- Collaborate with NHS professionals, housing teams, and voluntary sector organisations to provide integrated care and support services.
- Take a lead role in complex casework, ensuring that interventions are timely, effective, and legally compliant.
- Have the opportunity to train as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) if not already qualified, with a 5% salary allowance upon completion.
This role offers a diverse and stimulating caseload, where no two days are the same. You will be part of a team that takes a strengths-based approach to supporting residents, ensuring that they receive appropriate interventions tailored to their needs.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need to be a qualified and registered Social Worker with experience in adult mental health services. You will also have:
- A strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007).
- The ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with health professionals, housing officers, and voluntary organisations.
- Excellent communication and assessment skills, enabling you to build trust and positive relationships with service users, their families, and external agencies.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making, ensuring timely and effective interventions for those in need.
Experience working in a statutory mental health setting is desirable, but we welcome applications from social workers looking to specialise in this area.
What We Offer
At Westminster City Council, we value our employees and are committed to providing a positive and supportive working environment. When you join us, you will benefit from:
- Regular supervision and mentoring, ensuring you have the guidance and support to develop your career.
- A structured training and development programme, including opportunities to progress to senior roles and AMHP training.
- A collaborative and innovative working culture, where new ideas and approaches are encouraged.
- The chance to join our Global Majority support network and take part in reverse mentoring for senior managers, helping to shape the future of our services.
We are committed to creating a Fairer Westminster, where all communities feel valued, included, and supported. Our diverse and dynamic workforce reflects the people we serve, and we encourage applications from professionals with a passion for social justice and equality.
