Their Purpose - As a subsidiary of a global renewables company, they are a key player in the utility-scale battery energy storage market in the UK. They are dedicated to driving the deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESS) through an integrated solution, contributing to the widespread adoption of renewable energy.

Location & Flexibility - Hybrid - Office based in Reading

About the Job:

As the Senior Controls Engineer, you will lead the design, testing and implementations of ultra-fast response BESS plant controllers. This role requires expertise in power systems, utility communications protocols, and power systems modelling tools, enabling you to manage technical requirements, oversee stakeholders and mentor team members.

  • You’ll be responsible for drafting and negotiating technical requirements for fast response BESS plant controllers as well as managing design and deliverables with stakeholders, utilities and suppliers of fast response controllers.
  • You’ll oversee testing and commissioning of advance BESS plant controllers whilst mentoring team members and supervising processes to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • You’ll be responsible for also developing tools, implementing processes and contributing to technology and delivery improvements.

About You:

  • Degree within Electrical engineering (BengEE/BSEE/BSEE/BSECE/MSEE/MEngEE/MSECE/PhDEE/PhD in Power Systems Engineering)
  • 5+ years’ experience within renewable energy with a focus on energy storage.
  • Domain experience in power grid, power generation or renewables integration control.
  • Proficient with tools like DigSilent PowerFactory, EMTP, or similar for power systems modelling as well as SCADA systems & cloud platform deployment, Jupyter, Deepnote, Python, Batch Scripting and working with time series.
  • Strong experience in model-based control software development, Git workflow, and linux.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, including internationally.
