Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our dynamic team at a thriving mainstream secondary school in Lewisham. This is a full-time, long-term position with an immediate start, running through until the end of the academic year. The role will be pivotal in supporting students with a range of learning needs, including those with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), ensuring they have every opportunity to thrive in their studies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students with SEND on a 1:1 or small group basis, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons and adapting materials to meet the needs of students.
  • Provide academic and emotional support, helping students overcome barriers to learning.
  • Monitor and track students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and school leaders.
  • Promote an inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and achievement.
  • Help students develop social and communication skills, working closely with other staff to promote positive behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Support the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and tailored learning strategies.
Key Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children in a school or similar setting is essential.
  • Experience working with students with SEND is required.
  • DBS on the Update Service is mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students' needs.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for all students.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
