The Learning Support Assistant Job
I am looking for a experienced, dedicated and pro-active Learning Support Assistant staff or aspiring trainee Learning Support Assistant candidates to work with PMLD pupils. Applicants will join a top SEN School in Southwark as soon as possible. I have one or possibly two positions available to start as soon as possible based in a modern and very well run Special Needs School in a fantastic Southwark SEN school. As a Learning Support Assistant you will be working in small classes supporting children with PMLD and other complex cognitive difficulties.
Pupils have complex learning and medical needs, many are wheelchair bound and are unable to communicate with the outside world - this means that a background in social care or nursing and some school based Learning Support Assistant experience will be a huge advantage. You will be expected to support them with Hoisting, Manual Handling Needs and Personal Care (feeding, changing and toileting).
There will be comprehensive on the job Learning Support Assistant training and lots of support both through our client school (induction training, PECS, Makaton and Team Teach) as well as free CPD from Reeson Education covering Safeguarding, Introduction to SEN, Phonics, Effective Listening, Behaviour Management etc.)As a Learning Support Assistant you will be working with students aged 11-16; all of whom have statements of Special Education Needs. Most of the children you will be working with have very limited communication skills, and some are completely non-verbal. You will be working either 1:1 with a particular student or supporting a class alongside a team of fellow Learning Support Assistant staff and the class teacher.The personal care duties will include:
- PEG feeding
- Changing the students
- Feeding orally
- Helping students to brush their teeth
To be eligible to apply for this Learning Support Assistant position, you will need to be available to start immediately, as well as being able to commit to working 8:30 - 4pm, 5 days per week in Southwark. You should have a good command of numeracy and literacy, as this is especially important when supporting pupils with limited communication skills.Ideally, as a Learning Support Assistant you will have the following experience:
- PMLD experience
- LSA or care experience
- SEND experience
- Experience of or willingness to undertake personal care and manual handling tasks
- Local to the Southwark area would be advantageous though not essential
