Primary SEN Teaching Assistant
We are looking for a teaching assistant to join an SEN school which is a nurturing and inclusive environment that supports children aged 5-11 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. They provide personalised care and tailored learning experiences to help students build confidence, regulate their emotions, and thrive both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons that meet the individual needs of children with SEMH challenges.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to help children focus, manage their behaviour, and achieve learning objectives.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques to promote a positive and structured learning environment.
- Build trusting relationships with students to support their emotional well-being and help them develop social skills and resilience.
- Assist with the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour plans, contributing to assessments and reviews.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where children can express themselves, build confidence, and succeed.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide a holistic approach to each child's development.
- Support children during transitions between activities and lessons, promoting positive behaviour and independence.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with children with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour is highly desirable
- A compassionate, patient, and resilient attitude with a strong commitment to supporting students' emotional and social development.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with staff, therapists, and families.
- The ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations, offering constructive support to students.
Qualifications:
- Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or experience in a similar SEMH setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of SEMH and behaviour management strategies is a plus.
