Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting a pupil with SEMH needs, helping them access the curriculum, build positive relationships, and develop essential life skills. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement tailored strategies that promote emotional well-being and academic success.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to a pupil with SEMH needs.

  • Implement individual education and behaviour plans under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.

  • Support the pupil in managing emotions, developing resilience, and building social skills.

  • Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and external agencies.

  • Maintain accurate records of progress and behaviour.

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs (desirable but not essential).

  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with the wider school team.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent) are desirable.
